Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Accelerating Agri-Nutrition: The Role of Agriculture in Improving Nutrition in Kenya

I am keen to find out what other institutions/countries are doing to link agriculture to nutrition for improved health outcomes. (Agri-Nutrition)

"How do we bridge the disconnect between nutrition and agriculture?" The response requires us all to work together across sectors to create systems that are sensitive to nutritional outcomes.

During November to December in 2017 I was involved in carrying out a Baseline Study of the project, Water and Saline resilient agriculture in coastal regions in Bangladesh. During this empirical study it has been revealed that before engaging with that project 90% of women never met any agriculture extension services. Those who met or received extension services they were mainly received an orientation of how to produce vermi compost and it was sponsored by an NGO. But the sad scenario is that they could not practice what they received! So it is pivotal to review extension method when we will introduce nutrition sensitive agriculture.
