Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
This virtual resource centre from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Global Programme on Democratic Governance Assessments features data, articles, tools, statistics, and case studies on measuring democratic governance. It aims to be a one-stop-shop for democratic governance assessments, which can be used as mechanisms for strengthening accountability and participation at the country level.

Offered here are: a searchable database on global indicator initiatives, assessment frameworks, training materials, and country studies featuring existing initiatives to measure democratic governance at the national, regional, and global level. Also, the Governance Assessment Library includes online full publications on democratic governance assessments produced by a broad range of actors in the field. Visitors to GAP who use these features may learn: how to develop an index to monitor performance of public administration, sectors, and services; where to find surveys for evaluating corruption; how to conduct a baseline for democracy; and when to advocate for evidence-based policy reform on local governance and decentralisation in a particular country. The resource is also interactive, in that there are opportunities to connect and share knowledge with other practitioners and experts.
