Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Moments in Time: HIV/AIDS Advocacy Stories

SummaryText
This advocacy manual provides 16 in-depth interviews from HIV/AIDS advocates around the world. The collection of stories is intended to be a resource for advocacy training, reflective learning, and strategic planning. The manual shares some of the HIV/AIDS global advocacy efforts over the past 30 years, focusing on women, people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), and faith-based organisations. These groups were chosen because of a perceived need on the part of the publishers to promote the involvement of those most affected by HIV/AIDS at all levels of decision making.

Individuals interviewed are from Argentina, Brazil, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Eastern Europe, India, Kenya, South Africa, Thailand, Uganda, and the United States.

The intended audience includes advocacy trainers and people who are involved in or would like to start an advocacy campaign. Trainers may reference the manual as a resource that augments existing capacity-building tools.
