Write the Wrong 2009
The year 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of the United National General Assembly adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, a document outlining the innate rights entitled to children. "Write the Wrong 2009", a Journalists for Human Rights (jhr) initiative in partnership with the Walrus Magazine, is a Canada-wide essay competition, welcoming students 18 and under to respond in 1,000 words or less to one of the following two essay prompts:
What child’s rights issue, domestic or international, requires more media attention?
or
What do child’s rights mean to me?
The winning essay will be published in The Walrus Magazine Online, with the possibility of it also being included in the print edition. The winner will also receive a Mac Mini, as well as an invitation to jhr's August 2009 Human Rights Training Summit in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The runner-up will receive an ipod Shuffle. All five finalists will also have their pieces published in an e-magazine and will be invited to jhr's August 2009 Human Rights Training Summit. The deadline for application is April 10 2009.
