Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

TB Activist Toolkit - TB Basics Module

SummaryText

The “TB Basics Module” provides activists with fundamental information about tuberculosis in order to strengthen advocacy and scientific literacy around TB and TB/HIV. It is designed to offer activists information for their advocacy and to help them develop community education materials and sessions on TB.

The goal of this module is to provide participants with a foundation to understand the key concepts of TB. The facilitator notes and slide set are teaching tools that can be used as is or modified to suit specific needs and audiences. Facilitator notes include:

  • Fundamental information provides further explanation of the information on the slides and slide notes as “need to know” information.
  • Teaching points/exercises are meant to provide an opportunity to reinforce information and/or stimulate discussion.
  • Summary/review revisits key points of each section and provide an opportunity for clarification or further explanation.
  • Definitions provide explanation of commonly used and/or key terms italicised in the main text.
  • “Nice-to-know” information is not considered necessary or fundamental to understanding basics concepts - it may be of use, if not overloading participants.
