Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Family Planning Forecasting Tool User’s Guide
SummaryText
The ACQUIRE Project, with sponsorship of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has developed a programmatic and technical model/tool, "Reality √", that enables examination of the relationship of contraceptive prevalence to contraceptive users, adopters, and commodities. This tool is designed to enable reproductive health (RH) programmes to forecast overall contraceptive prevalence rates (CPR) at national or local levels and to analyse past CPR trends. CPR data is used to evaluate current efforts, set goals for the future, and plan for the resources the RH programme will require.

According to ACQUIRE "[e]xisting contraceptive prevalence projection tools allow for projecting at the national level, while Reality √ allows for projecting contraceptive prevalence, user, and commodity needs at the district and site levels as well....Reality √ can help one use existing data to project CPR and method mix into the future and test scenarios that impact CPR....The data can also provide evidence to use for advocacy purposes - one can advocate for an increase in family planning resources based on projected data."

The document is available in both PDF format and CD-ROM format. For PDF format, please see the link below. If you are interested in receiving a copy of the tool on CD-ROM, please contact info-acquire@acquireproject.org
