Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Radio Tools FAQ

SummaryText
"Audio documentary is a specialized medium. With it comes its own set of little details that can make the difference between a great radio piece -- and a trying exercise in figuring out which cable to use."

To aid in this effort, the Transom.org 'Tools' Editor Jeff Towne has gone through their online discussion boards and pulled together a new FAQ (Frequenty Asked Questions), answering the questions which come up persistently, including:
  • "How Do I Get Sound Recordings Into My Computer?
  • ProTools Says My Hard Drive Is Too Fragmented, What Do I Do?
  • Why Can't I Output Digital Audio From My Consumer Minidisc?
  • Why Isn't Everything, you know, Working Properly?
  • and the ever-popular.... What Microphone Should I Buy?"
The 'Tools' section also includes a gear guide, an online discussion board and a list of related audio links and resources.

Transom.org is an experiment in channeling new work and voices to public radio through the Internet.
