Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
This DVD is an outcome of the ICT4D Platform at the World Summit on the Information Society in Geneva, December 2003. Organised by the Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the aim of the platform was to enrich the political core segment and highlight the human and development dimensions of information and communication technology (ICT).

This DVD includes three segments:
  1. Young Asia Television (YATV) Report: The ICT for Development Platform - this exhibition showcases and discussed lessons, innovations, and perspectives of ICT for development.
  2. BBC Earth Report Debate: The Digital Divide - this debate about bridging the "digital divide" was broadcast live from the ICT4D Platform. The debate put questions to a panel representing governments, the United Nations, the ICT industry and civil society. This project is a collaboration by UNDP's Asia Pacific Development Information Programme, SDC and the Television Trust for the Environment (TVE).
  3. Video Presentation: ICT4D - Poverty Reduction - this is a summary videoclip by YATV/SDC presented at the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries-Development Assistance Committee (OPEC-DAC)/SDC Bilateral Donor Agencies Meeting, Geneva, September 2004 "Knowledge and People-centered Communication: Potentials and Pitfalls for Poverty Reduction and Advancement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)".
