Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

CTA People's Choice Photo Contest

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation Africa, Caribbean, Pacific (ACP)-European Union (EU) (CTA) invites entries for its photo contest in the following categories:

  • People and water (water use, including ACP coping mechanisms with respect to water or lack of it);
  • Technology and water - information and communication technology (ICT) and information and communication management (ICM);
  • Water and environment (role of water and climate change in agricultural and rural development).


The photo contest website allows for people to post photos or to vote for a favourite photo, as well as access information on CTA's annual seminar entitled Closing the Knowledge Gap: Integrated Water Management for Sustainable Agriculture, Pretoria, South Africa, November 22-26 2010. The grand prize is a Canon Digital SLR camera and an opportunity to participate in the annual seminar, all expenses paid. Each category prize winner will be awarded a Canon EOS 1000D EF 18-55 camera and a subscription to CTA’s Spore or Esporo magazines. The first and second runners-up in each category will receive a subscription to CTA’s Spore or Esporo magazines.
